Well October is Autism Awareness month and as you may or may not know, my oldest son Logan is Autistic!
One thing I notice from talking to many people about it, is that they think that all people affected by autism, are mentally retarded, which isn't true at all! There is a high and a low scale to it all, 10 being as close to high functioning as possible and 0 being very low functioning.
As a high functioning autistic child, my son is just amazing! He has what Docs can only describe as a photographic memory, he can speak and actually hold a conversation now, he goes to school on his own...on the bus no less, and thanx to a very hard working team and training he's received since he was 2 (a training that should be free to all, but most Americans pay close to $150,000 for it) he gets along with everyone he has in class and all his teachers and just everyone in general. His biggest problems now are that he has a hard time concentrating (most everyone thinks it's because he's just bored with school so far, I mean he taught himself the alphabet and to spell basically, and anything technical he's a whiz at) and along with that really loud noises! He really reacts negatively to loud noises!
All in all, he is going to be quite the complex, but most intelligent person I would say anyway, in our whole family, and I wouldn't trade him for another little boy or girl ever...simply because they wouldn't be this interesting!
Autism dosen't = retarded! Autism is a challenge and a blessing! Pass the word on, Think About Autism...Show You Care By Being Aware!!
Hey I love this, my son has HF Autism as well (he's 4) and my husband has Aspergers. So I was so happy to see this.
I agree autism is a blessing. It is a challenge at times but one that is joyful, interesting and beautiful.
You just made my day, someone else who thinks Autism isn't a bad thing.
I'm so glad I made your day! I am also glad to see others here in the DA community getting to see and read my message about this condition! It really makes my day when you and others like you find my wallpapers about Autism and communicate positively about them! Thanx a lot!

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
